Overview

SEMI – PRIVATE – LANDTOUR -MAX.8 PERSONS EXPERIENCE

Plaka is the capital village of Milos, located on a low hill.Walking uphill through its narrow, unpaved cobblestone streets and alleys with colorful bougainvillea’s and geraniums, few acacia, lemon, and olive trees, pots with fragrant herbs in the yards, one feels like being in a small corner of heaven. The ruins of the Venetian era Kastro (Castle) with white washed chapels on its slopes stand like a crown at the very top of the hill.

Visitors can stroll around getting to know how people lived in the past in Plaka’s typical Cycladic architecture houses, since the 19th century. The must visit point is a large “balcony” of marble paving stones floor and white and black pebbles, typical island mosaic designs.

There stands the Cathedral of “Panagia Korfiatissa” (Virgin Mary on the Peak of the Hill), an old (circa 1810) beautiful church with valuable icons and ecclesiastical items, most important being a magnificent gilded “Epitaphios”. Standing at the Balcony of Korfiatissa visitors will admire the beautiful sunset, and the superb view of the wide entrance of the gulf (2nd largest in the Mediterranean Sea) with the volcanic formations of the coastline, boats sailing on the deep blue sea, and afar like floating on water is the deserted high island of Antimilos or Erimomilos. Visitors apart from the view can also enjoy:
Taking away their drinks from the local bars to the Balcony stone benches to enjoy the Sunset
Local, handmade on site, sweets in the cozy yard of an old Pastry shop
Traditional “ouzo” and local delicacies at the taverns
Shopping (clothing, accessories, jewelry, decorative objects (among them a small Venus de Milo or a Cycladic Idol) and a variety of other objects
Visiting the small but interesting “Folklore Museum” and/or the “Sand Museum”
and full of unforgettable memories of a Sunset Tour at Enchanting Plaka, will return to the port of Adamas.
