Overview

  • AGGERIA It is the central mine of a large bentonite deposit. The geological formations from the surface down in the southern region are colourful and impressive. At the bottom of the Aggeria mine, a lake of mainly rainwater has formed, which is used to water the mine’s dirt roads and dust containment facilities. The Aggeria mine is one of the largest bentonite mines in the world. It is quite possible that some parts of your car (engine, brake discs) were cast in a sand mold where bentonite from the mine was used as a binder.
  • VOUDIA A large beach with fine pebbles, which is however inaccessible due to the industrial facilities of a mining company operating in the area. Geothermal potential of the high temperature field. One of the most important regions of Greece in terms of geothermal energy is found along the volcanic arc of the South Aegean, in which Milos is located.
  • POLLONIA Apollonia, on the northern coast, opposite Kimolos, is developing into a modern tourist centre as its climate and clean sandy beaches attract visitors.
  • PAPAFRAGKAS Next to the ruins of the ancient city of Phylakopi, are the three caves of Papafragkas. The cave of Papafragka is a deep sea cave, where you can swim in turquoise waters between grey-white rocks that lead to the open sea.
  • SARAKINIKO A short drive from Phylakopi takes us to Sarakiniko, an inlet of pure white rock formations sculpted by volcanic eruptions. The beautiful, otherworldly spot is one of the island’s many geological wonders and perhaps one of the most photographed places in the Cyclades. We’ll take a walk down the inlet so you can experience this one-of-a-kind beach and take photos.
