The walking route begins in the picturesque Plaka, the island’s capital. As we stroll through the village’s stone-paved streets, we admire the charming houses with small courtyards. Our journey takes us to the grand church of Panagia Korfiatisa, offering breathtaking views over the bay of Milos.
From the hill of Plaka, we follow an ancient path that descends to the traditional village of Klima. Along the way, we are surrounded by beautiful vegetation and vibrant colours. Midway through our journey, we arrive at the ancient town of Melos, where we encounter the remains of the unique 5th-century cruciform baptistery. This site is near where the famous statue of Aphrodite was discovered, as well as the ancient stadium, the Roman theatre, and the catacombs. (In the extended version, we will explore the catacombs in more detail.)
We continue along the ancient road toward the colourful town of Klima, the historic port of the island. It presents a unique opportunity to capture photos of the local architecture; this charming little settlement was featured in the trailer for the Athens 2004 Olympic Games.
A van is picking us up, and we will return to the port.
